Route 160--River Road

45 miles - 1 hour

Lest the traveler believe that California is all city from its northern border to its southern, there is, among many rural routes, Route 160, the River Road. The River Road stretches along the California Delta, a complex system of rivers, channels, and canals, mainly from the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers. The traveler can enjoy the historic delta agricultural areas and quaint small towns along the Sacramento River.

Rural Escape

The byway is only minutes from Sacramento and Stockton, and only a couple of hours drive from San Francisco, Silicon Valley, and Fresno. Yet, many of those cities' inhabitants are unaware of the California River Delta just down the road from them. The River Road offers a unique rural escape from the big cities that surround it.
