Booth's Escape

66 miles - 2 hours to drive the byway.

One of four Maryland Civil War Trails, this byway follows the escape route of one of history's most notorious assassins. After shooting President Abraham Lincoln at Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C., John Wilkes Booth fled into Southern Maryland and eluded Federal troops for nearly two weeks before being cornered in a Virginia barn.
